The bond of protection
Raksha Bandhan — literally "the tie of protection" — is one of India's most loved festivals, celebrating the timeless bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, a sister ties a sacred thread called a rakhi around her brother's wrist, praying for his well-being and long life. The stories behind the festival

In one, Queen Karnavati sent a Rakhi to Emperor Humayun seeking his protection, and he honoured the bond as if she were his own sister. In the epic Mahabharata, Draupadi tore a piece of her sari to bind Krishna's wounded wrist, and Krishna vowed to protect her in return. Across these stories runs a single thread — that this bond of protection crosses boundaries of blood, kingdom, and time.
